CONCEPT
In Find Your Reflection, Elizabeth Nenarokov presents a powerful exploration of self-discovery, encouraging each viewer to connect with their inner strengths and hidden powers. This collection delves into the idea of an inner "daemon"—a spiritual animal whose characteristics and spirit we share. Drawing inspiration from ancient South American and Chinese traditions, where humans were guided and protected by sacred animals, the work invites a modern audience to rekindle that sense of connection.
The ceramic wall sculptures feature dynamic, half-revealed animal faces, set against black glass that offers a glimpse of the viewer’s reflection. As you move through the collection, the glass surfaces serve as a portal for introspection, allowing each viewer to see themselves next to the symbolic animals and contemplate which resonates most with their inner nature.
Elizabeth's work calls for the audience to engage with an almost forgotten instinct—the belief that we possess animal-like powers of strength, resilience, and protection. In ancient cultures, children were given names like “Eye of an Eagle” or “Tooth of a Wolf,” recognizing the animalistic traits within them. In modern times, this connection may seem distant, but through her art, Elizabeth encourages viewers to reawaken that inner dialogue.
Each piece in the collection offers a chance to reflect, to find an animal that mirrors your own qualities, and to rediscover the hidden powers that lie within. Whether you identify with the boldness of a tiger or the keen perception of an eagle, Find Your Reflection is a journey of empowerment and self-awareness, pushing us to recognize and embrace our personal strength.
